Silver ring holding a piece of wood and casting a geometric shadow

Work

A rational approach
to contemporary jewellery

Each piece is the result of a process that brings intention, material, hand and action into relation. The language is built from a repertoire of operations that function both as tools for thought and construction: cutting, drilling, folding, bending, passing through, stitching, wrapping, inserting, clamping, articulating, superimposing and repeating are ways of establishing relationships between materials and forms.

Together, these operations form a working system: a way of exploring, making decisions and allowing each piece to find its own response.

About

Systems to wear

My approach to jewellery begins with the project. As in architecture, each piece is a question to be answered through form, proportion, function and construction.

Form emerges through the dialogue between material, hands and reasoning. It is not imposed: it results from a balance between properties, geometry, structure, function and body.

I am particularly interested in systems: pieces in which materials, joints and methods of construction are not concealed, but become part of their expression. Cutting, folding, articulating, stitching or repeating are operations that transform and determine form. The interventions remain visible and reveal how each piece was made.

I work according to a constant principle of minimal intervention. I seek simplicity, economy of means and the ability to achieve the greatest result with the fewest gestures. Whenever possible, a single operation fulfils more than one function.

Each material brings its own properties and constraints. I am interested in preserving its identity—its colour, texture, density and response to cutting, folding or tension—and combining it with others when it requires support, stability or a new constructive possibility.

The pieces exist to be worn. Their relationship with the body is present from the first gesture and informs every decision throughout the process.

Architect and jeweller

Trained as an architect at the Escola Tècnica Superior d’Arquitectura de Barcelona (ETSAB-UPC), I spent more than thirty-five years working on architectural projects and the transformation of public space, serving as Director of Urban Projects at the city councils of El Prat de Llobregat and Barcelona.

Since 2013, I have developed my own contemporary jewellery practice. I trained at Escola Massana and Taller Perill in Barcelona.

I have taken part in group exhibitions in Spain and Portugal. My pieces are included in the selection of the DShop at Barcelona’s Museu del Disseny.
